Privacy policy

Written for this version of the site. It will be updated before ads or payments are switched on.

Navnaam is built so the sensitive part of naming never has to leave your phone. This page says what is stored, and what is not.

Birth details

Date, time and place of birth are processed in the browser to estimate nakshatra, pada and rashi. They are not sent to our server. We do not keep a copy. If a later screen offers "remember on this phone", that choice stays in your browser's own storage and can be cleared by you.

Shortlist

Saved names, notes and the order you put them in live on the device (IndexedDB). There is no account in this version, so the list does not sync to another phone.

Family votes

Creating a vote stores the name slugs on the shortlist, a random link code, and a secret that lets the creator close the poll. A voter types a first name only, up to 24 characters, so the family can see who preferred which name. We do not ask for a phone number, email or surname. Anyone with the link can open the poll. The link expires and is deleted later.

Corrections and logs

If you suggest a correction to a meaning, we store the name, the field, and your suggestion. We do not store a full IP address in the database. Rate-limit counters may use a hash of a device id so one phone cannot flood the form.

Reports

A paid report collects the parents' names, the birth details you type, an email and an optional phone number, so the PDF can be written and sent. Razorpay handles the payment. We never see the card number. Birth details are deleted 90 days after delivery. The order record is kept for accounts. To ask for deletion sooner, write to support@navnaam.com. This follows the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Advertising is off until an ad client id is configured. Analytics, if added, will be described here before it is switched on. We do not sell personal information.
